Employee Handbook Blog

Employee Handbooks (sometimes called Personnel Manuals) are one of the things I have focused on in my 30 years as an employment attorney. I have helped many employers draft their employee handbooks and policies, and have compiled a library of employment policies that can be used as a basis for employee handbooks, making changes as needed to tailor them to the employer’s particular needs and circumstances. You may click below to read blog posts I have written on these employment-related topics:

SEVEN REASONS THAT BUSINESSES NEED AN EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK
EMPLOYEE HANDBOOKS: WHAT TYPES OF HANDBOOK POLICIES ARE REQUIRED OR ADVISABLE FOR MASSACHUSETTS EMPLOYERS?
EMPLOYEE HANDBOOKS: RECENT COURT DECISION HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF CAREFUL DRAFTING TO MAXIMIZE EMPLOYER DISCRETION AS TO WORKPLACE DISCIPLINE AND DISCHARGE (August 2013)
COURT DECISION HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF EMPLOYERS HAVING STAND- ALONE AGREEMENTS WITH EMPLOYEES ON SUCH MATTERS AS NONCOMPETITION, NONSOLICITATION, CONFIDENTIALITY, AND ARBITRATION OF DISPUTES, RATHER THAN INCLUDING THEM IN EMPLOYEE HANDBOOKS (MAY 2013)
COMMISSIONS: A WRITTEN, CLEARLY WORDED COMMISSIONS PAYMENT POLICY IS AN IMPORTANT PROTECTION FROM “WAGE ACT” LIABILITY FOR MASSACHUSETTS EMPLOYERS (April 2013)
EMPLOYEE HANDBOOKS AND POLICIES MAY NEED TO BE REVISED IN RESPONSE TO NLRB DECISIONS CONCERNING SOCIAL MEDIA , WORKPLACE INVESTIGATIONS AND EMPLOYEE AT WILL DISCLAIMERS (January 2013)
